يُبديdisplays مِنَfrom البَرقِthe lightning لِجاماًa bridle مُذهَباgilded
The sky has foaled an unruly, ash-gray steed,
The air has become turbulent and dusty
Displaying a gilded bridle of lightning.
Flashing lightning like a gilded cup

When it sings its neighing song, it enchants,
When it neighs melodiously it brings joy
Shaking off sweet-tasting sweat.
Dripping sweet dew from it
لَوif ذُوِّقَwere given to taste الشَهدَhoney لَكانَit would then be أَطيَباsweeter

Were one given honey to taste, its sweat would prove sweeter.
If its nectar was tasted it would be most delicious
Trotting along, it finds its rest in growing weary.
Prancing leisurely though inclined to tire
يَنزِلُdescends فيinto الوَهدِthe hollow عَلىat كُكمٍunclear as written; perhaps 'bidding' الصَباthe east wind

It descends into the hollow at the east wind’s [bidding?].
Descending in the valley on curled locks
White-blazed—if drought sees it, drought hides.
Alluring, if the abode sees it, it would be tested
يُقَرِّبُcanters الَّذيthe one that إِذاwhen ماever (emphasis) قَرُباdraws near

كَمmany a سافِرٍunveiled one غادَرَهُleft it مُنتَقِباveiled
It canters—the one that, whenever it draws near,
Bringing near that which when brought near
Leaves so many bare expanses veiled,
How many travelers it left searching
وَمُجدِبٍand a barren place مَرَّpassed بِهِby it فَأَخضَباand so it grew green
وَعاتِبٍand one aggrieved مِنَby الظَلماthe darkness قَدindeed أَعتَباhas appeased
And passes barren ground, which then grows green,
And a barren land it passed, so it flourished
And appeases those aggrieved by darkness.
And a complainant of injustice so it complained

Towering over all the hollows and the hills,
Faithful to every valley and hill
The earth smiles whenever it frowns.
The land smiles when it is fruitful

When it reaches a playground among the waters,
When it comes from the waters playfully
It shows you there a domed hoof,
I see you in it with hoof marked

As though you saw in it a star—
As if you are looking at a planet
Were it to tread, the ground would then sprout grass.
If you tread on it, it would grow greenery
