أَيُّهاO you المُستَثيرُwho rouses عَتبيmy reproach بِعُذرٍwith an excuse
أَيُّها المُستَثيرُ عَتبي بِعُذرٍ
حَقُّهُits due أَنthat يُمَضَّbe made to sting مِنهُbecause of it العِتابُthe reproach
حَقُّهُ أَن يُمَضَّ مِنهُ العِتابُ
O you who rouse my reproach with an excuse
O you who provoke my blame with an excuse
That ought to make reproach sting:
It is right that reproach should be wiped out
قَدalready جَرىhappened ماwhat جَرىhappened فَإِنso if كُنتَyou are جَلداًsteadfast
قَد جَرى ما جَرى فَإِن كُنتَ جَلداً
فَاِطوِهِthen fold it away بِالسُكوتِin silence فَهوَfor it is الصَوابُthe right course
فَاِطوِهِ بِالسُكوتِ فَهوَ الصَوابُ
What has happened has happened; so if you are steadfast,
What's done is done, so if you are patient
Then fold it away in silence, for that is the right course.
Endure it with silence, for that is best
