وَكَم مُقِرٍّ نَجا إِذ قالَ ما فَعَلا
O you against whom I have committed a wrong I confess,
O you whom I have wronged, though I acknowledge no wrong,
And many who confessed were spared when they told what they had done.
How many an ackowledger of wrong has escaped when he says what he did!

If you have no choice but to punish me,
If you have no choice but to punish me,
Then punish me with reproach—but not by turning away.
Then chide me, but do not estrange me!
