ياO ذاyou الَّذيwho مَنَّbestowed favors بِلاwithout مَنِّreminding others of favors
أَضَفتَyou added إِحساناًkindness إِلىto حُسنِbeauty
O you who bestowed favors without reminding others of them,
O you who granted favor without favor,
You added kindness to beauty,
You added kindness to kindness,
وَجُدتَand you gave generously بِالرَيِّwith thirst-quenching refreshment وَلَولاكَand were it not for you ماnot
عادَreturned إِلىto إِبراقِهِits luster غُصنيmy branch
And you generously quenched thirst; but for you, never
You gave drink though without you my branch
Would my branch have regained its luster.
Would not have returned to its brilliance.
فَماso what عَسانيmight I أَنto أُرىbe seen قائِلاًsaying
فيكَof you وَأَنتَand you are الدُرُّthe pearl فيin القَطنِthe cotton
So what might I be found saying
How could I conceive one speaking ill of you
Of you, when you are the pearl in cotton?
When you are the pearl ensconced in its oyster?
