هَزَّ الحَبيبُ مُجَرَّدَ المَطلِ

هَزَّ الحَبيبُ مُجَرَّدَ المَطلِ

فَعَلِمتُ أَنَّ مُرادَهُ قَتلي

فَعَلِمتُ أَنَّ مُرادَهُ قَتلي

The beloved brandished the unsheathed blade of delay.

The beloved brandished his bare sword

So I knew that his intent was to kill me.

So I knew he meant to slay me

فَدَعَوتُ صَبري كَي يُخَلِّصَني

فَدَعَوتُ صَبري كَي يُخَلِّصَني

فَأَجاني أَنا عَنكَ في شُغلِ

فَأَجاني أَنا عَنكَ في شُغلِ

So I called upon my patience to rescue me.

I called on my patience to save me

It answered me, “I am too busy for you.”

But it was too busy with other things

فَشَكَوتُ ذاكَ إِلى مُروءَتِهِ

فَشَكَوتُ ذاكَ إِلى مُروءَتِهِ

فَأَمَّدَني بِمَعونَةِ الوَصلِ

فَأَمَّدَني بِمَعونَةِ الوَصلِ

So I complained of this to his magnanimity.

So I complained of this to his kindness

And he came to my aid through union.

And he helped me with the aid of union
