Lo, O sons of Osman, glad tidings enough for you!

The Lord of the Throne has indeed bestowed the greatest blessing.

Today you have attained the goal for which

men before you perished under oppression.

    تَحَقَّقَ بَعثُ اللَهِ مَعَ عُسرِهِ اليُسرا

    Fugitive hopes suddenly dawned upon you;

God's sending ease alongside His hardship has come to pass.

It came, though the veil of despair had stood in its way.

How often the Judge resurrects those who dwelt in the grave!

And how often you harbored ill suspicions and said,

“We are finished!” Yet some suspicion carries a burden of sin.

So, without any promise, God changed your lot,

that it might be mercy for you and become a reminder to you,

and one may know that there is no Lord but God,

and none but He controls benefit and harm.

He willed to rescue the East from its stumbles,

so He cast over it a covering of His care.

And He inspired our lord the Caliph, whose shadow,

when it inclines toward dust, turns it to gold.

Thus, through his favor, you gained a new life,

which other peoples have come to buy with their lives.

In peace and coolness you gained it through his kindness,

while your neighbors' heads are cleft by the sword.

He spared you out of compassion; but in another's land—

how numerous the slain, and how cheap the captives!

Far be it from so devoted a father as he

to wish us injustice and burden us with hardship.

A leader whose favors come every day

to the East and Islam; we admit no limit to their number.

An age confronted him with calamities, yet he never ceased

to battle the age alone through his counsels.

He humbled calamities' obstinacy, and they grew docile,

and by planning he came to drive them by force.

For us, from his abundant bounty, in every crisis,

are clouds across the lands that resemble showers of rain.

Even if there were nothing but the road by which

the lattice of Taha, father of al-Zahra, came within reach,

it would, by my life, suffice to praise him

and to win him enduring glory and reward.

He indeed bestowed the blessing whose arrival

was to mankind like water to a parched liver.

And Osman's nation, in a moment, banished

through it, its dark days, replacing them with white nights.

What glad tidings in the ears of a nation

that grew drunk on them, though it had never known wine!

And what news it was that lightning brought us!

Clouds of tears streamed down for it, out of joy.

And what a happy time has spread its shade over us!

And a day on which we received its glad tidings is worth a lifetime.

So give thanks for the blessing, our brothers who

during that adversity showed such steadfast patience.

Come, value these generous deeds at their true worth,

and in your friendship offer thanks for them.

For how often you stood patient, while you were

on a shore with no means of crossing.

Do not recall that time which has passed,

for today's sweetness has made amends for the bitterness of what passed.

Long indeed was the dark night for the lovers,

but whoever witnessed dawn has forgotten the darkness.

There is no excuse for falling short after what has happened,

for none who witnesses the month escapes the duty to fast.

And ransom the Commander of the Faithful with lives

whose affiliation with Osman is glory enough for them.

Through his generosity, a new era will dawn for you,

and even before, his favors came in succession upon your heads.

    فَقَد جاءَ عَدوا في شَبيبَتِهِ الخَضرا

    Welcome the new age for us, under his rule;

for it has come running, in its green youth.

He has indeed granted you consultation, in accordance with

“And consult them in the matter,” if you bear authority.
