أَما أَنَّهُ لِلدينِ صارَت مَصائِرُه
Have Time's cycles truly turned against us?
Is fate really against us as its cycles turn?
Indeed, its fateful outcomes have fallen upon religion.
Or is it that all meet their destiny in the end?

So today its calamities have assailed Islam
On this day doubt assailed Islam
with a disaster; its great calamities were beyond counting.
With dire tidings, though once deemed trifles.

Yet it is Time, whose very name declares
Yet it is fate whose name we proclaim
that no youth exists but it becomes his destroyer.
That no man lives who shall not taste decay.

Its cutting swords are drawn against us, and
Stripped now of all cover, its links
its swords, by God, are nothing but agents of ruin.
Are naught but harbinger of catastrophe.

Each day in the wilds it lies in wait
crying to you: no escape from what you dread.
To cry 'No escape from what you fear!'

It broke Kisra, destroying his might,
and laid Caesar low; his palaces did not protect him.
And Caesar it felled, his guards of no avail.

Every age's ornament brought to nothing.

It is death, none can bar its decree
when the commands of the One, the All-Subduing, arrive?
When the One Omnipotent issues His command.

So glory to Him alone all faces bow
and who conquers every living being through death.
None lives but by His will He lays them low.

Drawing him near, to be His neighbor.

Affairs of religion proceed on their course
over his loss, while jurisprudence's eye sockets bled.
Despite his loss, jurisprudence tears her dress.

so even those who chide his grief can only excuse him.
Though their laments are but excuse for their distress.

Its horizons dimmed, its views obscured.

and sacred law has an eye whose rain never ceases.
And the law a thread still clings though it fray.

Pillar of knowledge collapsed, its edifice fell.

When fate's decree comes, patience takes flight.

Where his life in eternity flows on forever.

The piercing moon of brilliant light obscured.

His dust was watered by the rain clouds
visiting it at evening as it returns, and greeting it at dawn.
While the living ceaselessly turn to him.

Whom birth ushered in and death shall finish.
