When have any but mighty lions been confined to dens?

And have any but keen-edged swords been sheathed?

And prison is but a world ever renewed,

And to God belong worlds within this existence.

And there, no reins are loosened for souls,

Nor are a person's sanctities violated there.

You see that, great or small, all of them

Are equal, and all are clothed and fed.

So, O prison, in your protection I am safe

From scowling hearts, while mouths are smiling.

So, O prison, in your protection I am safe

From the hell of deeds, while words are breezes.

When tears stream from me in remorse,

Then what good could streaming tears do?

And I am but a commodity whose owners have perished,

Nor has it found anyone coming to it to bargain.

I built the foundation of their affection on sand,

And I shall surely tear that foundation down.
