كلاناboth of us طالبٌa seeker لِلعلمِof knowledge ساعٍstriving
كلانا طالبٌ لِلعلمِ ساعٍ
لِفَوزٍto gain منهُfrom it بِالقسطِwith the share العَظيمِgreat
لِفَوزٍ منهُ بِالقسطِ العَظيمِ
We are both seekers of knowledge, striving
We are both seeking knowledge, striving
To gain a great share of it.
For great success and bounty from it.
وكلٌّand each يَرتَإِيadopts رَأياًan opinion ويَدعوand calls
وكلٌّ يَرتَإِي رَأياً ويَدعو
سِواهsomeone other than him صاحبَthe holder of الرأيِthe opinion العَقيمِbarren
سِواه صاحبَ الرأيِ العَقيمِ
And each adopts an opinion and calls
Each puts forth their view and calls
The other the holder of a barren opinion.
The other's fruitless and dim.
وللتَّعليمِand for teaching أُسلوبانِtwo methods لكنbut
وللتَّعليمِ أُسلوبانِ لكن
نُريدُwe wish السَّيرَto proceed فيalong النَّهجِthe path القَويمِright
نُريدُ السَّيرَ في النَّهجِ القَويمِ
And teaching has two methods, but
Teaching has two approaches, yet
We wish to follow the right path.
We wish to take the rightful path.
فَأيُّهُماso which of the two الكفيلُthe guarantor لَناfor us بنَفعٍof benefit
فَأيُّهُما الكفيلُ لَنا بنَفعٍ
أَأُسلوبُis it the method of الحَديثِthe modern أمِor القديمِthe old
أَأُسلوبُ الحَديثِ أمِ القديمِ
So which of the two guarantees us benefit?
So which of them can benefit us-
Is it the modern method, or the old?
The new approach or the old staff?
