Unveil a countenance; if you reveal
Dawn, if you would dawn, your dawn
Its radiance, you will captivate the minds of onlookers.
Would captivate the minds of onlookers
يَنتَميbelongs الحُبُّlove إليهَاto her وهيَand she لاnot
تَنتَمِيshe belongs إلاexcept إلَىto مَجدِglory القُرُونthe ages
Love belongs to her, and she does not
Love clings to it, but it
Belong except to the glory of the ages.
Clings only to the glory of centuries
مِنamong مَعَانيmeanings الحُسنِbeauty حِيناًa time بعدَafter حِينa time
مِنfrom حَنانِtenderness الأُمِّthe mother تُلقيyou cast نَظرَةًa glance
Among the meanings of beauty, time after time,
At times it flashes meanings of beauty
Out of a mother's tenderness, you cast a glance
At times a mother's care in a glance
جَمعتhas gathered لِلعَطفِfor compassion نُوراًlight وَهُدىًand guidance
مثلَlike مَاwhat يَأتيcomes بِهِwith it الرُّوحُthe Spirit الأَمِينtrustworthy
That has gathered light and guidance for compassion,
It gathered for tenderness light and guidance
Like what the Trustworthy Spirit brings.
Like that brought by the trusted spirit
ثمَّthen كَالجلادِlike the executioner تَقسوyou grow cruel تَارةًat times
فَامزِجاso mix, you two ليfor me الرَّاحَthe wine بالمَاءِwith the water المَعِينflowing
Then, like the executioner, you sometimes grow cruel.
Then, at times, it hardens like an executioner
So mix wine for me, you two, with flowing water.
So mix for me comfort with cool water
لَذَّةَdelight البُرءِrecovery وَياand O مُرَّbitterness الدَّواthe medicine
أأبٌa father? أنتِyou (feminine) أَمُor أمٌّa mother لِلبَنينto the sons
Delight of recovery—and O bitterness of medicine!
The bliss of innocence! Bitterness of my life!
Are you a father or a mother to the sons?
Are you a father or a mother to the sons?
أَناI يَاO قَلبُheart إذاwhen مِتُّI die فَخُذthen begin

I, O heart—when I die, then begin
O my heart! When I die, take
To yearn; as for me, what have I to do with yearning?
In yearning - I, what is mine, and yearning?
ثُمthen قُصِّيrecount مِنfrom قُرونِages الغَابرِينthose long gone
Then tell of the ages of those long gone.
Then tell of the centuries of those passed away
