والدٍa father بينbetween اليدينthe two hands
والدٍ بين اليدين
If you could see al-Zahra
If only you could see Zahra
Between a father's hands,
In the arms of her father
وتراهand you see him ناظراًgazing
وتراه ناظراً
فيat محياa face أشرقاshone
في محيا أشرقا
And see him gazing
And see him looking
At a face that shone,
At her radiant smile
ويكادُand almost الطرفُthe gaze فيin
ويكادُ الطرفُ في
حسنهِits beauty أنto يغرقاdrown
حسنهِ أن يغرقا
And his gaze almost
His gaze almost drowning
Drowns in its beauty.
In her beauty
وكتابُand the book الدرسthe lesson فيin
وكتابُ الدرس في
يدهاher hand تقرأُshe reads فيهin it
يدها تقرأُ فيه
And the lesson book is in
And the school book in
Her hand; she reads it,
Her hand, reading it
وتجيلُand she lets roam الطرفَthe gaze فيthrough
وتجيلُ الطرفَ في
كلevery معنىًmeaning يحتويهcontains it
كل معنىً يحتويه
And lets her gaze roam through
Lowering her gaze to
Every meaning it contains,
Every meaning it contains
بذكاءٍwith intelligence ساطعٍradiant
بذكاءٍ ساطعٍ
جاءَcame منfrom نورِlight الإلهGod
جاءَ من نورِ الإله
With radiant intelligence
With brilliant intelligence
That came from God's light.
Bestowed by God's light
خصهُreserved it اللهGod بمنfor one whom
خصهُ الله بمن
قدalready حباهfavored him واصطفاهُand chose him
قد حباه واصطفاهُ
God reserved it for one
God endowed the one
Whom He had favored and chosen.
He loved and chose
زهرةٌa flower أينعهاmade it bloom
زهرةٌ أينعها
روضُa garden مجدٍglory تالدِancestral
روضُ مجدٍ تالدِ
A flower brought to bloom
A blooming flower
By a garden of ancestral glory;
In a garden of glory born
عرفُfragrance مجدٍglory مورثٍhanded down
عرفُ مجدٍ مورثٍ
والداًa father عنfrom والدa father
والداً عن والد
The fragrance of glory handed down
Of glorious lineage inherited
From father to father.

زينةadornment الدنياthe world اسفريunveil
زينة الدنيا اسفري
لأبٍfor a father عنfrom بهجتكyour splendor
لأبٍ عن بهجتك
Adornment of the world, unveil
Light of the world, bring joy
Your splendor for a father,
To your father with your radiance
واملئيand fill قلبهhis heart نوfirst part of 'light'
واملئي قلبه نو
راًcompletion of 'light' بداappeared منfrom طلعتكyour countenance
راً بدا من طلعتك
And fill his heart with light
And fill his heart with the light
That shone from your face.
Dawning from your rising
نجمتاthe two stars of الأرضthe earth أنتماyou two
نجمتا الأرض أنتما
لحتماyou both shone كالكوكبينlike the two stars
لحتما كالكوكبين
You are the earth's two stars;
You two are the stars of earth
You shone like the two stars.
Like two planets
فإذاso when أسفرتماyou both unveiled yourselves
فإذا أسفرتما
تخجلانyou both put to shame الفرقدينthe two Farqad stars
تخجلان الفرقدين
So when you both unveil yourselves,
When you rise
You put the two Farqad stars to shame.
