The poets of our Morocco—and you are their leader—

Have pledged allegiance to you as their victorious prince.

And the army of verse has come to you, swearing that it

Will remain your ally for all time.

And the brides of thought are offered to you,

Clad in delicate robes of fine brocade and silk.

Look at the eminent masters of verse: do you see

Among them a would-be poet, a paltry versifier,

From among those in bombast's arena? Indeed, they

Were a worthless lot among the poets.

    أنا لا أضيفُ إلى الوَزير وَزِيرا

    As for the minister, he is indeed at your side;

I add no other minister to the minister.

Amḥammad Gharriṭ, master of verse, is the one

Through whom this age of ours surpasses other ages.
