الشَّبلُthe lion cub قدindeed تَبِعَfollowed الأسودَthe lions وقَدand indeed غَداbecame
الشَّبلُ قد تَبِعَ الأسودَ وقَد غَدا
فيin قَفوِهhis following شِبلاًa lion cub كَريماnoble أمجَداmost glorious
في قَفوِه شِبلاً كَريما أمجَدا
The lion cub has followed the lions and has become
The cub has followed the lions, and has become
by following them, a noble and most glorious cub.
A noble, glorious cub in their footsteps.
يقفُوfollows in the footsteps of الجدودَthe forebears بِسَيرهin his conduct مُتَنزِّهاfree from vice
يقفُو الجدودَ بِسَيره مُتَنزِّها
مُتأدِّبَاwell-mannered مُتَديٍّناdevout متهجِّداpraying at night
مُتأدِّبَا مُتَديٍّنا متهجِّدا
He follows his forebears in his conduct, keeping himself pure,
He follows in their path with dignity,
well-mannered, devout, praying at night.
Well-mannered, pious, and steadfast.
يتلُوrecites الكتابَthe Book بقلبِهwith his heart متَدبِّراreflecting deeply
يتلُو الكتابَ بقلبِه متَدبِّرا
آياتِهits verses ولهَاand to them تَراهُyou see him مُقلِّداadhering
آياتِه ولهَا تَراهُ مُقلِّدا
He recites the Book with his heart, pondering
He recites the Book with an understanding heart,
its verses, and you see him adhering to them.
Contemplating its verses, adhering to them.
فإذاso if سألتُمyou ask وصفَهhis qualities وبيانُهand his eloquence
فإذا سألتُم وصفَه وبيانُه
وكمالهand his perfection فالفرعُthe branch بالأصلِafter the root اقتََدَىfollowed the example
وكماله فالفرعُ بالأصلِ اقتََدَى
So if you ask about his qualities and his eloquence,
If you ask for his description and details,
and his perfection, the branch has followed the root's example.
And his perfection, the branch follows the origin.
عبدَservant of السَّلامِPeace اهنَأrejoice بماin what قدindeed نِلتَهyou have attained it
عبدَ السَّلامِ اهنَأ بما قد نِلتَه
مِنfrom فضلِthe bounty of مولاناour master الكريمthe noble الأجوَداthe most generous
مِن فضلِ مولانا الكريم الأجوَدا
Abd al-Salam, rejoice in what you have attained
Abdul Salam, congratulations on what you have attained
from the bounty of our noble, most generous master.
Of the bounty of our generous, open-handed Master.
وليهناand may he rejoice الباشاthe Pasha التهاميal-Tihami المُرتَضىthe esteemed
وليهنا الباشا التهامي المُرتَضى
بالعزِّin glory يبقىhe remains فيthrough الدهُورthe ages مُخلَّداimmortalized
بالعزِّ يبقى في الدهُور مُخلَّدا
And may the esteemed Pasha al-Tihami rejoice
And congratulations to the well-chosen Pasha,
in glory, remaining immortal through the ages.
Who will remain immortalized through honor and glory.
فلتغتبطso may you rejoice بجنابهin his august person ولنَغتبِطand let us rejoice
فلتغتبط بجنابه ولنَغتبِط
إنَّindeed اغتباطاًrejoicing بالوفَاءin loyalty مُحَمَّداpraiseworthy
إنَّ اغتباطاً بالوفَاء مُحَمَّدا
So rejoice in his august person, and let us rejoice:
So let us rejoice in his company, and let us rejoice-
indeed, rejoicing in loyalty is praiseworthy.
Rejoicing in loyalty is ever praiseworthy.
