ليسَthere is not منany (emphatic particle) كربةٍdistress وغُصَّةِand choking anguish نَفسٍof the soul
ليسَ من كربةٍ وغُصَّةِ نَفسٍ
لِمُحِبٍّfor a lover أضناهُhas worn him down مَلُweariness (uncertain reading) الوِصالِunion
لِمُحِبٍّ أضناهُ مَلُ الوِصالِ
No distress or anguish of soul
No grief nor anguish of soul befalls
For a lover worn down by [weariness] of union
The lover whom separation's woe appalls
كَحَبيبٍlike a beloved قدindeed جادَgave generously بِالوَصلِwith union لكنbut
كَحَبيبٍ قد جادَ بِالوَصلِ لكن
ماnot لهُhe has قُدرةٌability علىto الإدخالِpenetration
ما لهُ قُدرةٌ على الإدخالِ
Compares with that of a beloved who has granted union, yet
Like one whose lover freely grants him boons
Has no ability to penetrate.
Yet cannot gain admission past her rooms
