فوقَupon فَرشِthe bed of السَّقَامِsickness شَيئاًanything يَرَاهhe sees it
فوقَ فَرشِ السَّقَامِ شَيئاً يَرَاه
My nurse visited me, but could not see
My nurses came to visit, but could not find me
Anything of me upon the bed of sickness.
Lying in my sickbed, though in plain sight be
قالhe said لِيto me أينَwhere أنتَyou قُلتُI said التَمِسنِيfeel for me
قال لِي أينَ أنتَ قُلتُ التَمِسنِي
فَبكَىso he wept حينَwhen لمdid not تَجِدِنيfind me يدَاهhis two hands
فَبكَى حينَ لم تَجِدِني يدَاه
He said to me, “Where are you?” I said, “Feel for me.”
"Where are you?" they asked, to which I said "Seek me!"
So he wept when his hands could not find me.
And they wept when their hands could not reach me
