أبي عُمدتي سُؤلي مُنائي وسيلَتي

أبي عُمدتي سُؤلي مُنائي وسيلَتي

نِدائي رَجائي سيدي سُؤددي ذُخري

نِدائي رَجائي سيدي سُؤددي ذُخري

My father, my mainstay, my heart’s desire, my hopes, my recourse,

My father, my pillar, my hope, my means,

My call, my hope, my master, my glory, my treasure.

My call, my wish, my master, my treasure,

لقد كنتَ تَرعاني وترعَى بُنوّتي

لقد كنتَ تَرعاني وترعَى بُنوّتي

وليس قليلاً ما مَنحتَ منَ البِرِّ

وليس قليلاً ما مَنحتَ منَ البِرِّ

Indeed, you cared for me and cherished me as your son,

You cared for me and nurtured my childhood,

And not little was the kindness you bestowed.

And gifted me with much kindness,

سأسكُبُ دَمعي فوق قبرِكَ سَرمَداً

سأسكُبُ دَمعي فوق قبرِكَ سَرمَداً

وليس بكافٍ سكبُ دمعي على القَبرِ

وليس بكافٍ سكبُ دمعي على القَبرِ

I shall pour my tears over your grave forever,

I will shed tears on your grave forever,

And pouring my tears upon the grave is not enough.

And shedding tears on the grave is not enough,

وكنتَ مثالَ النُّسكِ والزُّهدِ والتُّقَى

وكنتَ مثالَ النُّسكِ والزُّهدِ والتُّقَى

وقُمتَ بما أوصى بِه اللهُ في الذَّكر

وقُمتَ بما أوصى بِه اللهُ في الذَّكر

And you were a model of devotion, asceticism, and piety,

You were an example of devotion, asceticism, and piety,

And you acted on what God enjoined in the Scripture.

And you did what Allah commanded in the Scripture,

وأحرزتَ عن ذِكرٍ من الخَلقِ طَيِّبٍ

وأحرزتَ عن ذِكرٍ من الخَلقِ طَيِّبٍ

فَنَم في جِوارِ اللهِ يا طيِّبَ الذِّكرِ

فَنَم في جِوارِ اللهِ يا طيِّبَ الذِّكرِ

And you earned a good name among the people;

You gained mention from people that is good,

So sleep in God’s shelter, O you of good repute.

So sleep near Allah, O good mention!

سأبكِيكَ حتى ما بِقلبيَ زفرةٌ

سأبكِيكَ حتى ما بِقلبيَ زفرةٌ

تجيشُ وما بالعينِ من دمعةٍ تجري

تجيشُ وما بالعينِ من دمعةٍ تجري

I shall weep for you until no sigh remains in my heart

I will cry for you until no sigh remains in my heart,

To well up, and no tear remains in my eye to flow.

That surges, and no teardrop remains in my eye that flows.
