هُوَit رُزءٌa calamity ولاand not أقولُI say عظيمُgreat
وافتِقادُand the loss of البَنِينِthe sons آعظمُthe greatest رُزءِcalamity
It is a calamity, though I do not call it great;
It's but a fleeting grief, I do not exaggerate its extent,
and the loss of sons is the greatest calamity.
Yet to be deprived of one's sons is the most grievous of pains.
ذاكَthat is أنَّbecause الفُروعَthe branches إنif يَبقَremains أصلٌa root
يَخرجُcomes forth الخِبءُthe hidden thing منهُfrom it مَخرَجَas the emergence of خِبءِa hidden thing
That is because, with branches, if a root remains,
For if the roots remain, the foliage will burgeon anew,
what lies hidden comes forth from it, as a hidden thing emerges.
And good fortune will emerge however deep the despair.
فابتِداءُso the beginning of الأشيَاءِthings آخِرُthe end of خَتمٍan ending
واختِتَامُand the ending of الأشياءِthings أوَّلُthe start of بَدءِa beginning
Thus the beginning of things is the end of an ending,
The beginning of things is the end of what has passed before,
and the ending of things is the start of a beginning.
And the ending of things is the start of what is to come.
