عَجِبتُ لِسُرعَتِه في الكَلام

عَجِبتُ لِسُرعَتِه في الكَلام

وما ليسَ يُفهَمُ مِن ثَرثَرَه

وما ليسَ يُفهَمُ مِن ثَرثَرَه

I marveled at his speed in speaking,

I marveled at his quickness in speech,

and at the babble that could not be understood,

And that which was not understood from his chatter,

إِلَى أَن عَرفتُ مِنَ العُلَما

إِلَى أَن عَرفتُ مِنَ العُلَما

وَأَهلِ الحِجا أَنَّهُ حَشَرَه

وَأَهلِ الحِجا أَنَّهُ حَشَرَه

until I learned from the scholars

Until I learned from the wise,

and those of sound judgment that he was an insect.

And the people of experience, that it was just nonsense.
