بِهجوِكَ يَا بيَازُ أُرضِي أحِبَّتي
ولكنَّand yet شِعريmy poetry عندَat ذكرِكَthe mention of you يَسخَطُgrows indignant
ولكنَّ شِعري عندَ ذكرِكَ يَسخَطُ
By lampooning you, O Bayaz, I please my loved ones;
With your joy, O whiteness of my land, I satisfy my loved ones
But my poetry grows indignant at the mention of you.
But my poetry scorns at the mention of you
فأرضَيتُso I appeased شعرِيmy poetry نَابذاcasting aside لكyou إِنهfor it
فأرضَيتُ شعرِي نَابذا لك إِنه
إذاwhen ذُكِرَare mentioned السُّقَّاطُthe base فيin الشعرpoetry يَسقُطُit falls
إذا ذُكِرَ السُّقَّاطُ في الشعر يَسقُطُ
So I appeased my poetry by casting you aside, for it
So I satisfied my poetry, spurning you, for it -
falls when the base are mentioned in verse.
When the fallen are mentioned in verse, it falls.
