The cup of sorrows boils with enemies
And the heart of faith trembles and pounds.
Whose hearts of religion are timid and trembling

Wondrous is the German who knows his worth
yet makes for India's gleaming swords, thin as they are.
Yet suckles on the milky teats of India, weak and cringing

If the disease of ignorance has blinded him, how many
an ailment finds its antidote in blows to the neck!
Diseases strike those who imbibe poison as remedy
