Guests from the Nile have visited our Morocco.
Oh, welcome to our guests! Oh, welcome!

You have visited lands that have long yearned for you,
in longing, and poured forth abundant rain.

Art tells of you just as
the morning breeze tells of the flowers on the hills.

How many marvels they have created in their art!
And their Naguib—how much his mind has brought forth!

The miracles of art are found only with them.
Believe it, if you wish not to lie.

You have gladdened souls among us that had long
suffered anguish—and our soul had reason to suffer.

Worry is a sickness encamped in souls;
it will not depart except through hearing their arts.

Those who listen to them are in rapture,
and those watching them have untied their knee-binding wraps.

Not a single frowning brow remained among us
when his brow set about frowning.

He weeps, then laughs, then laughs mockingly,
and our comedian grows still more exuberant.

This is success, and these are its goals;
success is not too difficult for one who seeks it.

And you wished to bid us farewell after
the heart found comfort with you and grew ever fonder.

Why not stay until the heart quenches
its burning thirst and tastes a sweeter art?

after your departure—oh, how much more trying and difficult!
