وَلَيلةُand a night أُنسٍof fellowship جادَwas generous عناon our behalf ومانُناunclear as written; the suffix means 'our'
وَلَيلةُ أُنسٍ جادَ عنا ومانُنا
بهاwith it ليتَwould that شِعريmy knowledge هلwhether يُعادِلُهاmatches it مِثلُan equal
بها ليتَ شِعري هل يُعادِلُها مِثلُ
And a night of fellowship—our [unclear word] was generous on our behalf
My night of intimacy has departed from us
with it; would that I knew: could any equal match it?
I wish I knew, will its like ever be matched?
فضاءتthen they shone نجومُstars الكَهرباءِelectricity بأربعٍwith four
فضاءت نجومُ الكَهرباءِ بأربعٍ
تُحاكيresemble وُجوهاًfaces أربعاًfour ضَمَّهاgathered them الحَفلُthe gathering
تُحاكي وُجوهاً أربعاً ضَمَّها الحَفلُ
Then the electric stars shone, four in number,
The electric lights shone brightly in four
resembling four faces brought together by the gathering.
Mimicking four faces brought together by the gathering
وأظلَمَand went dark مِنهاof them قَدرَa number equal to أوجُهِthe faces of بَعضِناsome of us
وأظلَمَ مِنها قَدرَ أوجُهِ بَعضِنا
فهَلso, is ...? هيit مرآةٌa mirror لمَجلِسِناfor our gathering تَجلوreveals clearly
فهَل هي مرآةٌ لمَجلِسِنا تَجلو
And a number of them went dark, matching the number of faces of some of us;
And darker than them, the faces of some of us
so is it a mirror revealing our gathering?
Could it be a mirror of our assembly coming into view?
