    Ah, if only I knew: will you be like her,

    faithless to a pledge, with nothing to endear her?

    Yet that beauty has a refined nature,

    and far be it from a refined nature to betray a pledge.

    O sun on earth, whose radiance never fades,

    ah, how shall I fare when it is hidden from me?

    وأينَ من الظبِي الملاحةُ تُسكَبُ

    You entered like a gazelle, in gait and glance;

    and what gazelle has such loveliness poured forth?

    And what gazelle has a figure like a bān tree?

    And what gazelle has buttocks concealed from view?
