بَرزتyou appeared كماas شَاءwished الهوَىpassion لِذَويfor those with الهوَىpassion
بَرزت كما شَاء الهوَى لِذَوي الهوَى
وماand what شَاءَwished قَولthe utterance of الشِّعرِpoetry مِمَّنfrom one who بكَby you انكَوَىwas scorched
وما شَاءَ قَول الشِّعرِ مِمَّن بكَ انكَوَى
You appeared as passion wished for those in love,
And as the verse of one scorched by you wished.
سَألتكُمُI asked you all باللهِby God هلwhether عِندكُمwith you all دَوَاa remedy
سَألتكُمُ باللهِ هل عِندكُم دَوَا
لِمَنfor one who قدindeed هَوَىloved مَنone who جَلَّwas exalted قَدراin rank عنbeyond الهَوَىpassion
لِمَن قد هَوَى مَن جَلَّ قَدرا عن الهَوَى
I asked you, by God: do you have a remedy
For one who has loved someone too exalted in rank for passion?
إذاif ألهمَinspires اللهُGod الشبَابَthe young تعلُّماlearning
إذا ألهمَ اللهُ الشبَابَ تعلُّما
وألَّفَand unites ماwhat بينَbetween القلُوبthe hearts فَذَاthen this الدَّوَاthe remedy
وألَّفَ ما بينَ القلُوب فَذَا الدَّوَا
If God inspires the young to learn,
And brings hearts together, then this is the remedy.
