رأيتُI saw بعَينِيَّwith my two eyes نَجمَthe star الثُّريَّاof the Pleiades
فأحمدُso I praise ربِّيmy Lord علىfor بَصَريmy sight
I saw with my two eyes the star of the Pleiades,
With my eyes I saw the Pleiades star
So I praise my Lord for my sight.
So I thank my Lord for my vision
تمَلَّيتُI gazed my fill حِيناًfor a while بِنُورِهon its light إذfor
برُؤيتِهِin seeing it قَطُّever before لمdid not أظفَرِI succeed
For a while I feasted my eyes on its light, for
For a while I was dazzled by its light
I had never before managed to see it.
Since by seeing it, never did I miss
ولمand did not أرَI see فيon الأرضthe earth مِنany كَوكبٍstar
أُفدِّيهِI would ransom it مِنwhat a كَوكَبٍstar نَيِرِradiant
And I have seen no such star on earth—
And on earth I saw no other planet
I would ransom it—what a radiant star!
That I would ransom from the shining star
ولِلبَحرِand the sea has قَذفٌa casting forth لِدُرًّof pearls وماyet not
كَقَذفِlike the casting forth الدَّراريِّof the brilliant stars لِلدُّرَرِof the pearls
And the sea casts forth pearls, yet not
And the sea casts up pearls and what not
Like the brilliant stars' casting forth of pearls.
Like the casting of shining stars for pearls
