آخِي إن الفراقَ علَى الجميعِ

آخِي إن الفراقَ علَى الجميعِ

شديدُ الوقعِ ذو شَبَح مُرِيعِ

شديدُ الوقعِ ذو شَبَح مُرِيعِ

My brother, for everyone, parting

My friend, parting weighs heavily

is grievous in its impact, with a terrifying specter.

On all, a ghastly specter looms.

ولكنَّ الزمانَ أخو انتصَارٍ

ولكنَّ الزمانَ أخو انتصَارٍ

إِذا يَدنُو قَرِيعٌ مِن قَريعِ

إِذا يَدنُو قَرِيعٌ مِن قَريعِ

But time is brother to victory,

Yet time is conquest's brother,

when one peer draws near another.

Each solace to the next entombs.

فَخيرٌ أن نُسالمَ مِنه حَربا

فَخيرٌ أن نُسالمَ مِنه حَربا

تُحارِب سِلمَ ذي القلبِ الولُوعِ

تُحارِب سِلمَ ذي القلبِ الولُوعِ

So it is better that we make peace with its war,

It's best to make of war, peace,

which wars against the peace of one with an ardent heart.

And not with heartsickness feud.

فنفتَرقَا رضِينَا أم أبَينَا

فنفتَرقَا رضِينَا أم أبَينَا

على خَدى هَاطِلة دُمُوعي

على خَدى هَاطِلة دُمُوعي

So we part, whether we consent or refuse,

So we part, consenting or not,

my tears pouring down my cheek.

My cheeks with copious tears imbued.
