What ails him, that his lip-smacking grows stronger among us?
His speech between us strengthens though he drank no wine,
And he has sipped no wine; in his actions he imitates it.
And told no tale of drinking any that I know.
أَستَغفرُI seek forgiveness from اللهGod إنَّindeed الخمرَwine ريقَتُهُhis saliva
أَستَغفرُ الله إنَّ الخمرَ ريقَتُهُ

فما التَّمطُّقُ إلاَّ مِن تَحَسِّيها
I seek God's forgiveness—wine is indeed his saliva.
God pardon me! His spittle still smells faintly of wine -
So the lip-smacking comes only from sipping it.
His prating can be only from a drinking bout, I trow.
