As you have said, through him the garden of lofty deeds is fertile.

And are there veils between a man of glory and the heights?

His Majesty Farouk, the cherished, who sees

His happiness throughout life in the people's happiness.

    فمِن قلبِهم جسمٌ ومن جِسمهِ قَلبُ

    A bracelet around which his subjects' hearts have gathered;

So from their heart comes a body, and from his body a heart.

Thus the people's life has come to dwell in his heartbeats.

Lo, may the people's gallant sovereign endure!

The face of the East smiled because of him, and perhaps

The West frowned because of his learning.

Rather, he shone forth, revealing two dawns: a reign and a countenance.

So in the former we take pride, and for the latter we yearn.

Ascend to your two thrones: the throne of our hearts,

And a throne before which non-Arabs and Arabs bow.

Even if he is absent from Egypt today,

While the festival of joy has renewed her garment,

    فكَالسُّحبِ قد جادت على بُعدِها السُّحبُ

    It is the sun, shedding its light from afar;

So, like clouds, the clouds have rained generously despite their distance.

God bless that day that passed without a night!

For its night surpasses the daytime sun in radiance.

    على خَجَلٍ من نُورُها اختفِت الشُّهبُ

    So scattered stars were kindled from the lights;

In shame at their radiance, the stars hid themselves.

And melodies in every gathering place and home

Pour through our ears into souls.

And you met only one smiling person after another,

As the garden's face brightened when rain visited it at dawn.

And a gentleman beaming on meeting another gentleman,

And a flock of peers followed by another flock.

And papers that brought their fruit clusters within reach,

And their thickly wooded gardens lavished bounty on the villages.

And the blackness of their lines let light shine through:

Have they become an eye, their lines its lashes?

And a figure strutting and exulting, as though

The branches in its garden swayed at its sides.

And a stringer of pearls that floated upon his sea—

Can its moist pearls float upon the sea's surface?

With his fingertips he clasped the neck of a reed pen,

So he made it bleed magic that captivates the mind.

And if Egypt struggles in her king's reign,

Then his keen sword lies in the outstretched arm.

And when I saw that delay had thwarted my wish,

I reproached myself—but does reproach help?

So no wish of mine was lost at the advent of his festival,

If a wish was lost to me at the festival of his advent.

Such is glory: it is not attained without resolve.

So its hardest is easy, and its easiest is hard.

From him, a hill of eminence stands firm for all to see,

Where, through his virtues, grass smiles, revealing its flowers.

The fragrance of musk wafts whenever his name is mentioned.

So I mention him, and the heart loves fragrance.

So he greeted us as morning greets, with a countenance:

From it comes light for us, and from us love for it.

He saw himself in the forest as a cub of lions,

So he sprang up as they sprang up, and defended as they defended.

So march swiftly, O son of Egypt, toward the heights,

That history, the people, and the Lord may thank you.
