ماwhat ضَرَّكwould harm you ياO شِبهَlikeness of قَوامِthe stature of الأَسَلِthe spears
ما ضَرَّك يا شِبهَ قَوامِ الأَسَلِ
لَوif تَرحَمنُيyou show me mercy فَنَيِتُI have wasted away منfrom هَجرِكَyour forsaking ليof me
لَو تَرحَمنُي فَنَيِتُ من هَجرِكَ لي
What harm would it do you, O you whose figure is like a spear,
What harm to you, O slender like a spear's frame,
if you showed me mercy? I have wasted away from your forsaking me.
If you show me mercy, so I be released from your estrangement?
تِهbe proud كَيفَhowever أَرَدتyou wish ياO مُنَىdesire of النَّفسِthe soul فَماfor … not
تِه كَيفَ أَرَدت يا مُنَى النَّفسِ فَما
أَسلواI forget أبَداًever وَصَلتَyou granted union أَوor لَمdid not تَصِلِyou grant union
أَسلوا أبَداً وَصَلتَ أَو لَم تَصِلِ
Be as proud as you wish, O my soul’s desire, for I shall
However you wished, O soul's desire, so
never forget you, whether you grant me union or not.
Never cease connection, or connect not at all.
