قدindeed طلَّقdivorced مِنfrom جُفونيَmy eyelids النَّومَsleep ثَلاُثthree times
قد طلَّق مِن جُفونيَ النَّومَ ثَلاُث

جَذلانُ لِثامُهُ على البَدرِ يُلاث
Sleep has been thrice divorced from my eyelids
Sleep has been divorced from my eyelids thrice
by a joyous one whose veil is wound about the full moon.
The cover of his shyness over the full moon drips
أَستصرخُI cry for help مِنfrom مرارةِthe bitterness of الوَجِدِpassionate longing بهِfor him
أَستصرخُ مِن مرارةِ الوَجِدِ بهِ
لَكنِّيbut I ممَّاfrom what أشتكيI complain of ليسَnot أُغاثI am aided
لَكنِّي ممَّا أشتكي ليسَ أُغاث
I cry for help from the bitterness of my longing for him,
I cry out from the bitterness of passion for him
but I receive no relief from what I lament.
But from my complaints, I receive no help
