O you who have left the dwelling of patience within me in ruins,
O you who have abandoned me in my despair
No return of absent union is in sight.
Do not think the absent beloved will return

Fear your Lord concerning lovers, and be gentle with them.
Have mercy on lovers, and treat them gently
Do not think that beauty's reign will last.
Do not assume the reign of beauty will endure
