O my neighbors, after parting from you, do we have

nighttime conversations in the quarter's courtyard at nightfall?

And will our nights at Kazimah return

one day, and the dwelling draw near to you after separation?

For, by your honor, my heart was worn thin over you

by sorrows and thoughts when I departed.

And within me is a passion for you that has no end,

and a fire of longing, beside which other fire pales.

I question the caravan about you: will it tell me?

And the bane of longing, after closeness, is news.

Perhaps your dwelling will draw near, and I shall see it,

while you are present in the dwelling's spacious courts.
