ياO صاحباًfriend فيin كُلِّevery فَنٍّart بينهُbetween him
يا صاحباً في كُلِّ فَنٍّ بينهُ
وَسِواهُand others besides him ماwhat بَينَbetween الثُّرياthe Pleiades والثَّرىand the earth
وَسِواهُ ما بَينَ الثُّريا والثَّرى
O friend, in every art, between whom
Oh friend, superior in every art
and all others lies the distance between the Pleiades and the earth!
None can compare, between the Pleiades and the earth
لوif أنthat برمكBarmak خالداصforever (apparent typo) يحياlives لناfor us
لو أن برمك خالداص يحيا لنا
لأعادهُwould remake him فيin الفضلِgenerosity بحركُyour sea جعفراJa'far
لأعادهُ في الفضلِ بحركُ جعفرا
If Barmak lived on forever among us,
If only your eternal Khalid lived for us
your sea would remake him as Ja'far in generosity.
Your generosity would return him, like Ja'far
قسماًI swear بأنعمكَby your favors الحِسانِbeautiful وإنهَّاand indeed they
قسماً بأنعمكَ الحِسانِ وإنهَّا
قَسَمٌan oath أَراهُI deem it فيamong الأَنامٍmankind مُطَهَّراpurified
قَسَمٌ أَراهُ في الأَنامٍ مُطَهَّرا
I swear by your beautiful favors, and indeed they
I swear by your finest qualities
are an oath I deem pure among mankind.
An oath I see as pure amongst mankind
إنَّindeed المدائحُpraises فيin سِوىother than ظليكَyour two shades لمdid not
إنَّ المدائحُ في سِوى ظليكَ لم
تنفُقsell readily بضائعُهاtheir wares وليستand they are not تُشتَرىbought
تنفُق بضائعُها وليست تُشتَرى
Indeed, outside your two shades, praises have not
Verily, praises apart from you are not
found a market for their wares, nor are they bought.
Their wares sell, and they cannot be bought
