O flash of lightning from Dhat al-Uthaylat,
O lightening flash from the permanent hills
Describe to the people of the protected pasture my longing and my burning sorrows.
Describe to the people of passion my fervor and yearnings

And O breeze of the moringa branches from Idam,
And O breeze of the branches of acacia
Will what passed in the protected pasture return after separation?
Has what passed in passion, after purpose, come
كأنَّas though فيكَin you شذىًa fragrance منfrom أرضِthe land of كاظمةسKazimah (apparent extra س)

فَهَلso did ...? مَرَرتyou passed علىby تلكَthose الثَّنيَّاتِthe mountain passes
It is as though you bear a fragrance from the land of Kazimah;
As if in you is the fragrance of a repressed land
So did you pass by those mountain passes,
So have you passed by those slopes
وَحملَّوكَand they entrusted you with رِسالاتٍmessages فواso, O أَسفاًsorrow!
عَليهِمُfor them وعلىand for تِلكَthose الرِّسالاتِthe messages
and did they entrust you with messages? Alas
And they carried to you messages - how woeful!
for them and for those messages!
For them and for those messages

Turn aside and greet their dwelling at al-Khalsa’,
Turn aside and call greetings to the sincere ones, their abode
Perhaps I may soothe my heart with greetings.
So that I may soothe my heart with greetings

And ask the valley’s campsite traces: did there pass, swaying,
And ask the sand dunes of the valley, the people of Khatrat
their women in litters, with figures slender as spears?
Their tents with the lofty Samhar poles

For the mute one may answer you, speaking
For the mute may answer you quickly
of them swiftly, but through signs.
About them, though but with gestures
