My infatuation with you is no secret to you.

So be mindful of God when you shun me, and fear Him.

Turn away from injustice, deal justly with souls, and do not

Wrong the love-crazed, enamored, wasting lover.

O you who feather arrows from your eye's glance,

Nock them, for there is no target but my heart.

Glory to Him who gave you a waist that does not shorten

My torment, and a flank that will not bend toward me.

I complained so that you might pity me and have mercy on what

I suffer from my wasting passion and my infatuation.

Your cheek-down sends me back despairing of that—

Lām-shaped—together with the curve of your alif-like figure.

Our loved ones in the districts of the two Ghoutas, may

A downpour of my streaming tears water your dwellings.

Before separation, I used to complain of your shunning—oh,

How I long for that shunning today, and how I grieve!

May a night-traveling raincloud drench you, O two courtyards of Jayrun,

From among the heavy, streaming, low-hanging night-clouds.

And may no downpour pass you by, O Banas,

    Streaming over al-Qasr, al-Maydan, and al-Sharaf.

Pleasure grounds—how many a coquettish young gazelle they hold,

Sweet in manners, with honeyed dusky lips, delicate,

Veiled by unfounded reproach and coyness, gentle

In speech, dark-eyed, and haughty by nature.

His cheek has all the rose's crimson flush,

And his figure all the bān tree's slender grace.
