Is there someone to carry my greeting to the people of al-Aqiq,

And speak to them of my yearning and passion,

And tell them that, though separation has stretched far,

I remain true to a pledge and bond of honor with them?

I watch the gleam of al-Aqiq's lightning when it appears,

With the dawn, from their acacias and thumam grass.

And I ask the fluttering breeze: is there in it

News to quench my thirst and its burning heat?

And I yearn for them when the east wind calls,

Just before dawn, while rainstorms and eyelids pour.

And this is only because its inhabitants, tomorrow,

Will have an abiding home in the heart's very core.
