داريتُI dissembled وكنتُand I was كاتماًconcealing بَلباليmy turmoil
داريتُ وكنتُ كاتماً بَلبالي
جَهديas best I could وكتمتُand I concealed عنfrom وُشَاتيmy slanderers حاليmy state
جَهدي وكتمتُ عن وُشَاتي حالي
I dissembled and kept my turmoil hidden,
I kept it to myself, concealing my sorrows,
as best I could, and concealed my state from my slanderers.
I strove in vain to hide my state from spies;
لكنbut نَقلَconveyed الدَّمعُthe tears حَديثيmy tale بكمُof you
لكن نَقلَ الدَّمعُ حَديثي بكمُ
فيin الحالِthe present moment كَماas جرَىflowed إلىto العُذَّالِthe reproachers
في الحالِ كَما جرَى إلى العُذَّالِ
But tears carried my tale of you
But tears revealed my tale without my leave,
at once, as they flowed, to the reproachers.
And told my secret straightway to my foes.
