أَنكَرتُI disapproved of وُقوفيmy standing فيin عِراصِthe open grounds of الدِّمَنِthe ruined dwelling sites
أَنكَرتُ وُقوفي في عِراصِ الدِّمَنِ
مِنfrom بَعدِafter أُناسٍpeople ضاعَwas lost مَعهمُwith them زَمنيmy time
مِن بَعدِ أُناسٍ ضاعَ مَعهمُ زَمني
I disapproved of my standing in the open grounds of the ruins,
I reject standing amidst the ruins
after people with whom my time was lost.
After people with whom my time has passed
هَبsuppose أَنّيthat I فيin أَخذيmy taking عَنهُمin their place بَدلاًa replacement
هَب أَنّي في أَخذي عَنهُم بَدلاً
وافقتُكَI agreed with you هاتِcome now أَنتَyou قُلtell ليto me بِمَنِwith whom
وافقتُكَ هاتِ أَنتَ قُل لي بِمَنِ
Suppose that, in taking a replacement for them,
Suppose I take from them in return
I agreed with you—come, tell me yourself: with whom?
I oblige you, tell me, for whom?
