ياO رائِشُRāʾish قِسweigh أَمرَكَyour affair فيin جُملَتِهِits entirety
يا رائِشُ قِس أَمرَكَ في جُملَتِهِ
فالُمؤمِنُfor the believer قِيلَit is said النُّصحُsincere counsel منamong شيمَتِهِhis traits
فالُمؤمِنُ قِيلَ النُّصحُ من شيمَتِهِ
O Rāʾish, weigh your affair in its entirety,
For sincere counsel, they say, is among a believer’s traits.
إِيَّاكَbeware وذاكَand that one السَّاحِرَthe bewitching الطَّرفِthe gaze وَخَفand fear
إِيَّاكَ وذاكَ السَّاحِرَ الطَّرفِ وَخَف
أَنthat يَحتَرقَcatch fire الَمركَبُthe boat مِنfrom وَجنَتِهِhis cheek
أَن يَحتَرقَ الَمركَبُ مِن وَجنَتِهِ
Beware of that one with the bewitching gaze, and fear
That the boat may catch fire from his cheek.
