لاdo not تَحسَبواthink (you all) خالهُhis mole النَّدِّيَّfragrant عنبرةًa piece of ambergris
لا تَحسَبوا خالهُ النَّدِّيَّ عنبرةً
أضحىbecame بهاwith it خدُّهُhis cheek الورديُّrosy قدalready عبَقاgrew fragrant
أضحى بها خدُّهُ الورديُّ قد عبَقا
Do not mistake his fragrant mole for a piece of ambergris
With which his rosy cheek has grown perfumed.
وإنَّماbut rather كانَhad قلبيmy heart منfrom تَملمُلِهِits restlessness
وإنَّما كانَ قلبي من تَملمُلِهِ
أَلقىcast علىupon الخدِّthe cheek جُزءاًa piece منهُof itself فاحتَرقاand so it burned
أَلقى على الخدِّ جُزءاً منهُ فاحتَرقا
Rather, my heart, in its restlessness,
Had cast a piece of itself upon the cheek, and it burned.
