By your honor, distance has not changed my love for you,

even if my soul perishes and my passion grows.

And you are with me, though your estrangement lasts long,

ever present; in my heart you have an abiding home.

And but for you, I would not have lived a day, for you are

my nourishment, my constant remembrance, and my wine.

And to my eye you are more delightful than slumber,

even if I spent an age without sleep.

Just as you are more desirable to my liver than the

sweet, limpid water—an age without sleep.

I loved you in the realm of primordial particles; thus was nourished

my soul by love for you, the sustenance of my enduring life.

And I mingled with you before the Loving One; then I was given drink

by love for you, from my lifeblood and my bones.

So if I were asked, “Where are those whom you love

with a nursing love, without weaning?”

I would say, “I am they, always, and they are I.”

So this is my belief about you, and what I say.
