O night of union, in which staying awake was sweet,
When the moon spent the night as my boon companion in its darkness.
يَفتَرُّhe smiles فَدُرُّso the pearls ثَغرِهِof his mouth مُنتَظِمٌstrung together
يَفتَرُّ فَدُرُّ ثَغرِهِ مُنتَظِمٌ
لِلصَّبِّfor the lovesick lover وَدُرُّand the pearls لَفظِهِof his speech مُنتَثِرُscattered
لِلصَّبِّ وَدُرُّ لَفظِهِ مُنتَثِرُ
He smiles, and the pearls of his mouth are strung together
For the lovesick lover, while the pearls of his speech are scattered.
