Whose heart, after this day, could meet sorrow,

since he gained, from union with him at the valley bend, what had gone before?

    وَطابَ واخضرَّ عيشُ الُمنحنَى وَصَفا

    He won his wishes, and the little tamarisk's shade grew serene for him;

and life at the bend grew pleasant, verdant, and serene.

The nights of aversion and estrangement fled and ended,

and Najd's people aided a lover wasting with sickness.

The days of the protected pasture were not stingy; for Najd's bird, the

auspicious one, has sung of union amid its spreading trees.

He never asks the caravan for news after those nights,

nor roams the mountain passes and the protected pasture, consumed by love.

O swaying bān tree, do not bend, and stand ashamed:

for he of the supplest flank bent that day upon the slope.

And O eyes of the oryx, lower your gaze, for a glance has been cast

by his pupils; and ask his eyelids for long, thick lashes.

And O radiance of dawn, this is the dawn of his brow,

revealing splendor; so why have you not come acknowledging it?

Slender-waisted, his flanks never sway in delight

without growing still more slender over the long span of time.

He gifts the full moon light from his beauty,

and from his tresses he robes the night in darkness.
