يا نَجمُ قَد استَحيا أَخوكَ القَمَرُ

يا نَجمُ قَد استَحيا أَخوكَ القَمَرُ

إِذ لَيسَ لَهُ مِثلَكَ خَدٌّ نَضِرُ

إِذ لَيسَ لَهُ مِثلَكَ خَدٌّ نَضِرُ

O Najm (Star), your brother the moon is abashed,

Oh star your brother the moon is shy

For he has no radiant cheek like yours.

For he has no cheek as fresh as yours

لَو أَمَكَنَهُ أَعلاكَ عَن رُتبَتِهِ

لَو أَمَكَنَهُ أَعلاكَ عَن رُتبَتِهِ

أَو جاءَ إِليكَ صاغِراً يَعتذِرُ

أَو جاءَ إِليكَ صاغِراً يَعتذِرُ

If he could, he would raise you above his own rank,

If he could, he would raise you above your rank

Or come to you humbled, apologizing.

Or come to you humbly begging your pardon
