أيُّهاO you الظَّاعنُdeparting one مُذsince تولَّىturned away
خلَّفَleft behind النَّارَthe fire فيin الحَشاthe inward parts واستقلاًand departed
O departing one, since you turned away,
O you who turned away since you took over
you left fire in my breast and journeyed on.
Left the fire in the thickets and went away
لمdid not يَدعleave ليfor me نَواكَyour remoteness مُذsince غِبتَyou were absent عنِّيfrom me
غيرَother than جسمٍa body قدalready اعتَدىexceeded bounds واضمحلاًand wasted away
Since you vanished from me, separation from you has left me
You left me no comfort since you were absent from me
only a body that has exceeded its limits and wasted away.
Except a body that transgressed and withered
ياO كثيرَmuch given to النِّفارِshunning لاno ماnot أرانيI see myself
تَرَكَleft البينُseparation فيَّin me إِلاexcept الأقلاthe very least
O you so prone to shunning—no, I do not think
O you who frequently depart, nothing remains in me
parting has left in me anything but the barest remnant.
Except the little
كنتُI used to أشكوcomplain of جفاكَyour coldness قبلَbefore التنَّائيgrowing apart
ذلكَthat الصَّعبُhardship صارَbecame بعدَكَafter your departure سَهلاeasy
I used to complain of your coldness before we grew apart;
I used to complain of your aloofness before the separation
that hardship became easy after you left.
That difficult became easy after you

May a downpour drench the land where you dwell,
It rained on a land, made fertile by a downpour
like my tears, pouring down without slackening.
Like my tears that do not cease

And may God watch over you wherever you turn,
May God guard you wherever you turn
and may you always exult in joy.
While you still enjoy happiness

No, by that modesty, my heart has never thought
No - and that shyness - my heart never
of bearing separation from you for even a day—far from it, never!
Thought of you for a day with patience, never
دقَّbecame subtle معناكَyour essence فيin الملاحةِbeauty وصفاًin description
فبحقِّso by the right of الغَرامِlove إنَnot هوَit جَلاbecame clear
Your essence in beauty is too subtle to describe;
Your meaning pounded me with eloquence and description
so, by love's sacred right, it has not become clear.
By the right of passion, it is glorious
أنتَyou خالٍalone دونيapart from me بِقلبيwith my heart فَسلهُso ask it
هلwhether تسلَّىit found solace أوor رامًsought أَنto يَتسلَّىit finds solace
You are alone with my heart, apart from me; so ask it
You are a maternal uncle to me in my heart - ask it
whether it has found solace, or sought to find solace.
Did it enjoy itself or try to enjoy itself?
ماnot رأيناwe have seen مُذsince غبتَyou were absent غُصناًa branch طليحاًlanguid

Since you vanished, we have seen no languid branch
Since you left, we have not seen a blooming branch
swaying with a radiant light shining forth.
Bending with a trunk that straightens
