حاشاكَfar be it from you تُكافيyou requite بِدُموعِwith tears تَكِفُfall
حاشاكَ تُكافي بِدُموعِ تَكِفُ
حَتَّىuntil تَتَلافىyou rescue مَنone whom بَراهُhas worn him down التَّلَفُruin
حَتَّى تَتَلافى مَن بَراهُ التَّلَفُ
Far be it from you to requite with falling tears,
You will not repay with tears that suffice
until you rescue one whom ruin has worn down.
Until you make amends with whom ruin has marred
لَوif كُنتَyou were تُصافيyou show sincere affection لَمnot يَكُنbe ماwhat أَصِفُI describe
لَو كُنتَ تُصافي لَم يَكُن ما أَصِفُ
جَنبٌa side يَتجافَيturns away وفُؤادٌand a heart يَجِفُthrobs
جَنبٌ يَتجافَي وفُؤادٌ يَجِفُ
Were you sincere in love, what I describe would not be:
Had you reconciled, what I describe would not be
a side that shuns repose and a heart that throbs.
A side that recoils and a heart left parched
