ما أعجلَ ما وكَّلتُمُ بالسَّهرِ

ما أعجلَ ما وكَّلتُمُ بالسَّهرِ

جفني وحجَبتُمُ عن سِواكمُ نظَري

جفني وحجَبتُمُ عن سِواكمُ نظَري

How swiftly you have consigned to sleeplessness

How quickly you tasked my eyes with vigil

my eyelid, and veiled my gaze from all but you!

And veiled them from seeing other than you

ما أنا مَجنونٌ بعشقي لكُمُ

ما أنا مَجنونٌ بعشقي لكُمُ

أو أنَّكم أحسنُ هذا البشرِ

أو أنَّكم أحسنُ هذا البشرِ

I am not mad in my love for you—

I'm not madly in love with you all

or rather, you are the fairest of these mortals.

Nor are you the best of mankind
