    Ask his wide eyelids

    Why they nocked arrows.

They shot lovers with a glance,

And so all of them lay slain.

And when he turns away, enough for them is

His coyness, which they find sweet.

And a gaze made estrangement lawful,

And a figure made union forbidden.

And ruby-red wine upon the pearls of the

    Front teeth is now unveiled.

So, O his stature, be gentle

With a mind worn away by sorrow.

    And O his drowsy eye,

    Be gentle with death—[gently?]

And now I no longer hear

    Any blame or any reproach.
