قالَsaid ليto me قائِلsomeone speaking رَأَيتُكَI saw you تَهوىyou love
قالَ لي قائِل رَأَيتُكَ تَهوى
آلthe family of طهTaha وَدائِماًand always تَرتَجيهِمyou place your hopes in them
آل طه وَدائِماً تَرتَجيهِم
Someone said to me, “I have seen that you love
Someone told me, "I saw you passionately loving the family of Taha (the Prophet's family) and always hoping for them."
the family of Taha and always place your hopes in them.
It was really incumbent upon you to devote a long time praising them and those after them.
كانَwas حَقّاًa duty عَلَيكَupon you تَستَغرِقyou devote entirely العُمlife (word continues)
كانَ حَقّاً عَلَيكَ تَستَغرِق العُم
رcompletes 'life' مَديحاpraise فيهِمof them وَفيمَنand of those who يَليهِمfollow them
ر مَديحا فيهِم وَفيمَن يَليهِم
It was incumbent on you to devote your whole life
I said, "What can I say when the universe derives perfection from their hands?"
to praising them and those who follow them.”
What meaning is there to my praise when the Revered Scripture has come praising them?
قُلتI said ماwhat ذاthis (part of 'what') أَقولI say وَالكَونwhile the universe طَرّاin its entirety
قُلت ما ذا أَقول وَالكَون طَرّا
يَستَمِدّdraws الكَمالperfection مِنfrom أَيديهِمtheir hands
يَستَمِدّ الكَمال مِن أَيديهِم
I said, “What can I say, when the entire universe
I cannot praise people who Gabriel was a servant to.
draws its perfection from their hands?
May God grace our time with the noblest of their sons - rather, for their sake.
أَيّwhat مَعنىmeaning لِلمَدحِfor praise منىfrom me وَقدwhen already جاhas come (word continues)
أَيّ مَعنى لِلمَدحِ منى وَقد جا
ءَcompletes 'has come' الكِتابthe Book العَزيزthe mighty بِالمَدحwith praise فيهِمof them
ءَ الكِتاب العَزيز بِالمَدح فيهِم
What worth has praise from me, when there has already come
He has uncovered treasures of pride for us to collect as if we are collecting them.
the mighty Book with praise of them?
He is the emblem of their glory, so if we do not see them, their glory tells of them.
أَناI لاnot أَستَطيعI am able أَمدَحI praise قَوماًa people
أَنا لا أَستَطيع أَمدَح قَوماً
كانَwas جِبريلGabriel خادِماa servant لاto (fragment of 'to their father') بيهمtheir father (word fragment)
كانَ جِبريل خادِما لا بيهم
I cannot praise a people
My Lord, I have no means but my love for the family of Taha and all those loyal to them.
whose father Gabriel served.
So help me for their sake, my God. I am a guest who has descended in their association.
متعhas gladdened اللَهGod عصرناour age بِشَريفwith a nobleman
متع اللَه عصرنا بِشَريف
منfrom among بنيهمtheir sons بَلindeed منamong أَجلthe noblest of بنيهمtheir sons
من بنيهم بَل من أَجل بنيهم
God has gladdened our age with a nobleman
Overlook my misdeeds, increase my good deeds, and treat me well for I have become one who praises them.
from among their sons—indeed, one of their noblest sons.
My God, permit clouds of prayers to gather over where they lie.
هوhe أَبدىrevealed لَناto us كُنوزtreasures فخارglory
هو أَبدى لَنا كُنوز فخار
نجتليهاwe behold them كَأَنَّناas though we نَجتَليهِمbehold them
نجتليها كَأَنَّنا نَجتَليهِم
He has revealed to us treasures of glory;
And prayers upon the one who came with the light from their Lord to guide them.
we behold these as though we were beholding them.
And upon his noble companions, those who followed them, and the followers of their followers.
هُوَhe عُنوانُthe emblem of مَجدِهِمtheir glory فَاِذاso when لَمnot
هُوَ عُنوانُ مَجدِهِم فَاِذا لَم
نَرهمwe see them كانَwas مَجدَهُhis glory يحكيهِمmirrors them
نَرهم كانَ مَجدَهُ يحكيهِم
He is the emblem of their glory; so when we do not
see them, his glory mirrors them.
رَبO Lord ماليI have no وَسيلَةmeans of approach غَيرother than حُبّيmy love
رَب مالي وَسيلَة غَير حُبّي
آلthe family of طهTaha وَكلand everyone منwho يَقتَضيهِمseeks them (wording uncertain)
آل طه وَكل من يَقتَضيهِم
Lord, I have no means of approach but my love for
the family of Taha and all who seek them.
فَأَغِثنيso help me بِحَقِّهِمfor their sake ياO اِلهيmy God
فَأَغِثني بِحَقِّهِم يا اِلهي
أَناI ضيفa guest نزلتI have alighted فيin ناديهِمtheir assembly
أَنا ضيف نزلت في ناديهِم
So help me, for their sake, O my God;
I am a guest who has alighted in their assembly.
وَاِعفand pardon عماwhat جَنيتI have committed فَضلاout of grace وَاِحساand kindness (word continues)
وَاِعف عما جَنيت فَضلا وَاِحسا
ناcompletes 'kindness' فَاِنّيfor I قَدindeed صِرتُhave become منamong مادِحيهِمthose who praise them
نا فَاِنّي قَد صِرتُ من مادِحيهِم
And pardon what I have committed, out of grace and kindness,
for I have indeed become one of those who praise them.
ياO اِلهيmy God وَأذنand permit لسحبto clouds of صَلاةblessing
يا اِلهي وَأذن لسحب صَلاة
تَتَوالىcome in succession لِمَضجعto a resting place يَحويهِمthat holds them
تَتَوالى لِمَضجع يَحويهِم
O my God, allow clouds of blessing
to come in succession to the resting place that holds them.
وَصَلاةُand blessing عَلىupon الَّذيthe one who جاءَcame لِلكُلِّfor all
وَصَلاةُ عَلى الَّذي جاءَ لِلكُلِّ
بِنورwith light منfrom رَبِّهِمtheir Lord يَهديهِمhe guides them
بِنور من رَبِّهِم يَهديهِم
And blessings upon the one who came for all
with light from their Lord to guide them,
وَعَلىand upon صَحبِهِhis companions الكِرامthe noble وَقومand a people
وَعَلى صَحبِهِ الكِرام وَقوم
تَبَعوهُمfollowed them وَتابِعيand the followers of تابِعيهِمtheir followers
تَبَعوهُم وَتابِعي تابِعيهِم
and upon his noble companions, and a people
who followed them, and the followers of their followers.”
