يَقولsays ليto me الشَيبgray hair لِماwhen رَأىit saw
يَقول لي الشَيب لِما رَأى
وَلَوعىmy passion بِقدّfor a figure وَخدّand a cheek وجيدand a neck
وَلَوعى بِقدّ وَخدّ وجيد
Gray hair says to me, on seeing
Gray hair says to me when it saw
my passion for a figure, a cheek, and a neck:
My suffering due to my cheek, jaw, and forehead:
تُريدyou desire منfrom الغانِياتthe beautiful women الوِصالunion
تُريد من الغانِيات الوِصال
وَشَيبُكand your gray hair يَنهاكrestrains you عَمّاfrom what تَريدyou desire
وَشَيبُك يَنهاك عَمّا تَريد
“You desire union with beautiful women,
"You want intimacy with singing girls,
yet your gray hair restrains you from what you desire.”
Yet your gray hair prohibits you from what you desire."
